5 Virtual Field Trip Ideas Your Kids Will Love
/Distance learning and homeschooling shouldn’t stop your kids and classroom from enjoying fun field trips. While experiences may have gone virtual, we can still compile quality resources to entertain and enrich our children.
This list of virtual field trip ideas offers activities and interactive videos that support child development and can supplement the year’s academic curriculum. Just grab a tablet, computer, phone, or even cast/screen mirror to a smart TV and turn up the volume! Pair it with these virtual classroom mindfulness tools for a healthy balance.
1. Head to the STEM Center of Excellence Online
Teamed up with Discovery Education, the Girl Scouts have launched a program called Girls Lead STEM and it is awesome! Not only does this encourage girls’ interest in STEM, it also offers an opportunity to take a virtual field trip to the STEM Center of Excellence.
Take the STEM virtual field trip here, and be sure to check out the additional resources and student activities to keep the learning flowing. This field trip is also offered in Spanish.

2. Take Kids on Virtual Field Trip to Another Country
Virtual field trips are able to offer classrooms and families adventures many may have not been able to previously experience. International trips, for one, are not common in early elementary!
But there is still plenty to learn from other countries at every age (from art, to history, to language, science and more!) and exposing children to other cultures early can have long term benefits.
Parents and educators love the series of global adventures on the Yo Re Mi musical yoga and mindfulness app, and our Mexico Adventure is one of the most popular! You can also learn about Italy, head to New York City, explore ancient Egypt, and visit France (to name a few).
3. Bring the Museum to Your Home
Some of our favorite museums have curated exciting at-home and on-the-go virtual field trips for children, families, and classrooms.
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) has a weekly round up of themed activities covering science, language, wellness, art, and more! We feel honored to have been featured a number of times on their Feel Good Fridays and Move & Groove Mondays.
4. Celebrate Nature and Animals with a Wild Adventure
Who doesn’t love animals? Whether it is your family pet or a fierce jungle animal, there is something about the great animal kingdom that gets kids excited.
Take a wild adventure with some of these entertaining and educational animal-themed virtual field trips listed, and check out the video below for a YouTube preview of some of our favorite animal yoga poses for children.
5. Visit the Library for Special Online Programming
As always, libraries have really showed up for children and classrooms during these unique times. Their resources are plentiful and many have created a special schedule of digital programming and field trips for families and classrooms to keep learning and growing.
Mentioned in our list of summer camp alternatives, Jersey City Free Public Library, for instance, has an amazing line up of adventures on Facebook Live. Our Yo Re Mi teaching artist, John shares free musical yoga throughout the week with JCFPL as part of our Online Learning Program.
Enjoy your virtual field trip!
